SURGICHIP® is a patent pending solution using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology embedded in a smart label to promote patient safety by helping to prevent wrong-patient, wrong-site, wrong-procedure surgery. This simple to use system was developed by an orthopaedic surgeon with the operating room staff in mind.

SURGICHIP® incorporates a 3-step verification process designed to complement the existing protocols followed prior to a surgical procedure. At each step along the way, positive patient identification is accomplished and critical data pertaining to the surgical procedure, site, and side are verified for accuracy. All steps are electronically documented, providing a complete audit trail to the verification process, from patient scheduling right through to the surgical “Time Out” prior to the start of a procedure as mandated by JCAHO.
